printQ recently had the opportunity to construct some challenging signage for Wildman Hunting & Outdoor.
Wildman Hunting & Outdoor required signage for their outlet at the Cape Gate Lifestyle Center that would make the bright lettering in their logo stand out. They considered using an aluminium lightbox, where the graphics are printed onto lightbox material and stretched over the aluminium frame of the lightbox. There are florescent lights strategically placed behind the print which lights up the lightbox. The challenge was that Wildman Hunting & Outdoor were required to cover a large surface area for their signage and that a lightbox of this magnitude, would be very expensive and not very practical.
Faced with this dilemma, we chose to build an aluminium backboard and cover it in black PVC material. We then shaped the lettering out of aluminium using a CNC router and printed Wildman Hunting & Outdoor’s bright coloured lettering onto vinyl and pasted it onto the aluminium letters. We placed studs behind each letter, to make them appear raised off the backboard. We added a touch of exclusivity to the signage by placing LED lights behind each letter so the outline of each letter is visible at night.
Both Wildman Hunting & Outdoor signages are 7 m and 9 m respectively, both were transported to their premises. Our greatest concern was that the walls and pillars where the signages would be displayed were built asymmetrically and that that would affect the visual aesthetic, but fortunately, this wasn’t a major problem.
printQ would like to extend a word of thanks to Wildman Hunting & Outdoor (Gerhard van Rensburg), for allowing us an opportunity to build the signage and contravision on the windows.
